Many factors can affect the performance of oil/water separators.
Facets computer modeling program, The MPak Quality Prediction
Program, is designed to take into account all of these factors to
assure that performance criteria are met.
Most water pollution regulations allow for a maximum effluent
hydrocarbon content (measured in ppm). Because different size droplets
rise at different rates (Stokes Law), it is necessary to determine
the rise rates of the different sizes in order to determine which
droplets are captured by the separator.
Facets proprietary computer program does just that. Based
on statistical principles, it calculates the minimum droplet size
completely captured and determines the quantity of oil that is not
captured; i.e., that which remains in the effluent water. The difference
between the volume of the captured oil and
that in the inlet is the effluent oil content.
The information required for these calculations includes:
Type of application
Water flow rate
Temperature range
Type of oil and specific gravity
Influent oil levels normal and max. in ppm
Effluent requirements |
|
Physical size limitations
of installations
Type of water (fresh, salt) and specific gravity
Presence of surfactants
Nature of solids, type and specific gravity
Gravity or pump flow (make, type and rating of pump)
